Re: Patience is a virtue

Hi, Dick. You're out of it.

(I can talk to Dick like that. I coached him last year, and also
waaaaaaaaaaaay back, before his voice had changed.)

Two main reasons you're out of it.

First, what do you mean by "represented on the network"? Am I missing
something, or does one need to meet strenuous qualifications to be on
the network? Internet access seems pretty common to me.

Secondly, as has been remarked several times, this is merely an
extension of what goes on in hallways, over the phone, etc. It's just
that this is an incredibly convenient format: you get a hard copy, you
can edit your work and ensure that it arrives intact, etc. With the
information exchange this fired up, the communal info-sharing gets
better. If other schools aren't on the net, then those who are can share
the intelligence. But if it's never gathered, or is inaccurate, or is
cumbersome to gather, the chances of that happening plummet. You
yourself advocate sharing the sheet, which I don't think anyone here
would contest, given the thorough thrashing that Linda just administered
to Whitney in the more general openness discussion. This just isn't a
reason NOT to do this, or even to wait to do it. It's just a reason to
take a second step, which I confidently assume people were going to do
anyway.

Great --- we venture all the way to CEDA-land to learn about far-off
kingdoms and different practices, and end up squabbling with one
another. Go figure.
