Six Rounds and... -Reply
** High Priority **
Arnie, you are correct in your listing of factors, but the format tends to
ba an area over which we do have some control....the others we do not.

Scott's initial arguments in favor of a 6-round model are intriguing, but
don't forget there are other factors which introduce fatigue, and which
are unlikely to change in the present environment:
1) Transportation to and from tournaments. This has always been a
problem, and will be so until all debate tournaments occur via the
Internet. I remember trips as an undergraduate where we would drive
8-10 hours one day, get a motel room, and then drive the remaining
several hours the second day.
2) LEXIS*NEXIS, etc. As long as people do research at tournament sites,
as long as they write briefs in anticipation of the next day's opponents,
there will always be fatigue.
Other things, I'm sure, but the above two are the big ones from my
experience. 6 rounds in intriguing, but don't blame it all on the format.
