9-3-6 helps the negative
Sure, it's an extra minute for the 1AR, but the extra minute for the 1NR can
make a gigantic difference in the ability of that individual to extend a
disad well, or to cover the case, etc. The block is substantially deeper.
Additionally, the difference between five and six minutes for the 2NR is
gargantuan--the extra minute for the 1AR is not even close to as valuable as
it is for the 2NR. Don't get me wrong--the affirmatives win a
disproportionate share of debates, but how often is it because the 2NR
dropped important 1AR arguments? Not all that often; it certainly does not
explain the skew.
Let me also say that 8-3-6 sucks the big honker. THOSE time constraints make
a difference for the affirmative, to be certain; it's a ridiculous
compromise. Do one or the other, don't try to do both, because it's lousy.
The last thing I want to say is that Sean Lemoine sucks.
