Re: ans Tuna
No one asked me for a proxy. I offered it without inducement and
publicly to avoid any appearance of "evil". I guess I also have a
conflict of interest, since I believe such a vote would be in the best
interests of my program and my students--who would not just be debating
Harvard and Northwestern, but Cornell and Vermont as well.
And why should someone who believes strongly in something avoid
"collecting" proxies? Because these activities are currently separate, I
am unable to cast my own vote at CEDA nats. I can't participate in the
ensuing discussion but I am a member of CEDA and interested in its future
as well. And I believe in Tuna's proposal. In fact, I am doing
whatever I can to make things happen in NDT at the same time. But
Prof. Korcok doesn't seem to think that proxies are democratice. Maybe we
should start requiring poll taxes and allegience oaths for CEDA voters.
Or I've got another idea. Maybe we should prohibit all members of the
CEDA executive council from being active members of the community. Or
maybe....
