point man/merger

yes, and Tuna and i have arranged a subtle and strategic ploy to do so.
see, we only pretend to disagree to lull NDT into a hasty adoption of
the CEDA topic and then yank the release date back to September 15th.
no, wait, that won't work. Tuna?

a plot less subtle than NDT's ploy to bring the CEDA champs into a
"showdown" on the Love Boat where the judges are all really
Rosicrucians, but a subtle plot nonetheless.

hey, dim bulb, i have previously and publicly stated that i think a
merger or some such would be a GOOD thing. my time "chatting" on the
ndt-l seemed to me constructive: respect and ceda-bashing were put on
the table rather than being left in the back of people's minds. i also
got a really good sense of the ndt: seemed to me that many folks were
willing to work to make a "merger" function. some didn't seem ready to
do so.

i have also stated my position publicly that we need to proceed with due
caution. an NDT adoption of the CEDA topic with an early release date
seems to me to remove almost ALL motivation from NDT's willingness to
talk "merger". the scenario spins out thusly:

the NDT debates the CEDA topic. tournaments remain largely separate.
there is crossover: NDT schools send 3rd and 4th teams to CEDA
tournaments on occasion, while CEDA schools send 1st and 2nd teams to
NDT tournaments. the CEDA national championship remains open to all
comers and many come. the NDT remains on a bid-district-bid system.
some CEDA schools are invited, but not many. the NDT workshop system
remains intact.

possible, Mr. Bryant? likely, i think.

good for CEDA? maybe, but i'm not really convinced yet. one thing seems
fairly clear, though: NDT schools no longer have any motive to do a
"merger". their competition base is renovated and they do and can claim
to compete against 350 schools. the NDT stays an NDT school phenomenon
because of the bid-districts-bid system and the hotshot high schoolers
stay at the NDT schools.

can CEDA do better by "negotiating" rather than merely making it easy to
do CEDA crossover? i think so, but that opportunity is lost by making
it easy for NDT to adopt the CEDA topic. we may still want to do so,
but let's DECIDE rather than drifting into a new debate structure which
is likely to last for decades...

not all that respectfully,
