Korcok on Tuna's evil plot

The name is Snider, as in "Duke," not Snyder as in "Tom."

Your accusations in the absence of any hard data are surprising for someone
as intelligent as you have always seemed to be. There is a nice sprinkling
of tentative language there as well, so I'll not be as harsh as I am
tempted to be.

Let's see, you seem to be saying that I am trying to round up proxies for
my topic reform proposal so that I can enrich myself and my program through
expanding NDI? Right?

This is quite a conclusion to reach based on my note to Fritch over CEDA-L
which read:

"My messages to you keep getting bounced back. Sorry. You may send anyone
your proxy if you wish, I think email is OK." [notice the "anyone" part]

Which was a response to his note to me which read:

">Tuna,
>
>I support all of your proposals. When will they be voted on? If it will be
>at ceda nationals, what are the rules for votes by proxy?
>
>John Fritch
>SMS"

Two people asked me if they could send me proxies. One was John Fritch, and
the SMS system keeps bouncing my email messages back, so I posted a message
to CEDA-L saying I would accept it. The other is Tom Jewell. I solicited
neither proxy. Do you have a problem with them voting in an organization
they pay dues to?

Mike, I am the upcoming chair of the topic committee. Steve Hunt, our Prez,
asked me to work on a topic reform proposal. I have produced one. I'll be
happy if the thing passes with an October 1 release date, at least we'll
have a year long topic and a cogent way to develop topics.

I never have and never will actively seek proxies. If I propose something
and people who can't be at the meeting offer to send me proxies in
agreement I will accept them. Hell, I'll accept proxies in disagreement.
[the email address above will do just fine for disagreeing proxies]

NDI is a tremendous success under the current topic selection system. We
had 100 CEDA students last year. We can barely handle all of the students
we now get. We don't need early release. I believe we start on July 27, by
the way.

If you think I am engaged in some sort of conspiracy to benefit myself
personally then you know very little about me or about how NDI operates. I
am required to break even. Tuna and Vermont debate cannot make money off of
it by decree of my Dean. We gave out over $10,000 in scholarship funds,
most of it to students from "resource challenged" programs who needed help
to attend. I make as much money as I would from teaching a summer school
class, and let me tell you, teaching one class would be a lot easier. And
besides, if I did that I probably wouldn't have to put up with people
questioning my integrity like you are.

Other people might do what you are describing, but I assure you that I do
not. If I wanted money and power and fame I wouldn't be a debate coach.

Next time, please try the private email first.

PS: I still have you on the potential faculty list as wanting to be a guest
lecturer at NDI and your accusations do not change your status there. I
don't hire my pals, I try to hire the best debate minds, and you are
certainly among them.

PPS: By the way, I also do a high school handbook, and have edited and
published it for the last 10 years as an unpaid volunteer.
