FW: Critiques and Katsulas

Subject: RE: Critiques and Katsulas
I would hate for CEDA debaters to think Katsulas'
opinion is typical in the NDT community.
My own experience may be enlightening:
Last summer at our (ceu) HS camp, Demetrius Lambrinos,
Chris Lundburg and Mark Batik, all of Redlands,
not only did outstanding jobs as lecturers and
lab leaders, but also made overt gestures to
bridge the gap between CEDA and NDT, and also
encouraged development and advocacy of critiques.
So my own perceptions were made rather
optimistic by the solidarity, philosophical and
otherwise, of CEDA and NDT at the
ceu camp.
Remember, there are also quite a few people in the
CEDA community who say the same thing about
critiques as Katsulas. Those who believe
questioning the underlying philosophical assumptions
of arguments has no place in debate leave me
troubled. What, then, is debate?
Imagine we're attending the 1836 National
Tournament. The topic is: Resolved, that
the Southern states ought to substantially
change slave labor regulation.
Katsulas (and his ilk in both NDT
and CEDA) wouldn't buy critiques of slavery?
I think such an outcome would speak
for itself.
Thanks for the post, tuna.
