Re: Dickman on topic length & release date

okay, so you agree that tournaments are good to get caught up at for some
schools that lack a large resource base (e.g., coaches)...

first, no one is advocating a longer tournament schedule, just that the
topic get releases earlier to allow for cooperation with NDT.
Sanctioning can still be held off until tournaments usually start. Even
if this were the effect of moving up the topic release date, you even
admit that tournaments allow small resourced schools to close the
competitive gap; this added benefit and NDT cooperation would probably
weigh over any negative repurcutions of a student life :) and whatever else.

deal with the idea that season extention isn't necessarily required to
release the topic earlier, and that it isn't necessarily a bad thing either.

two benefits already explained: cooperation with NDT and maybe allowing
for the resource constrained to get more experience.

a life, a life, a life... highly overrated. Most of the times, the idea
behind a commpetitive activity is that much time and effort goes into it.
besides, i dont really see how bumping up the release date would add any
significant workload. an extra two tournaments, yeah, whatever... how
much _extra_ work would your squad be doing for that... i cant really
think of much. if you are concerned about getting behind just move your
schedule up a few weeks.

extra work from where?

ditto.

added benefit #3: berkeley is tryying to find a free weekend to host our
college tournament on that wouldn't have 3 other tournaments going on in
the west. and for all this hassle, it would be worth it.
