Thanks to the Debate Community

I want to speak for all of the University of Vermont debaters and coaches
in thanking the following folks.

Kansas State University, for being so helpful and such good hosts at their
tournament, and also for letting me crash in their hotel room at SIU/Jesuit
when we could not afford one. They might have had second thoughts when I
made noise during my 5 AM daily evidence downloads, but they were polite
about it.

Michigan State University, for allowing Annalei and Jethro to crash in
their hotel rooms at SIU/Jesuit and for helping us with transportation.

Gina Lane and the William Jewell debaters for helping us attend their
tournament.

Greg Simerly and all of the SIU posse for making it possible to attend the
Saluki and the Jesuit, for their transportation help, and for their warm
hospitality. The students still rave about their visit to the "Little Grand
Canyon." Thanks for the "Made in Mexico" whistle.

Pierre Heidrich, long time supporter of our program, for giving us housing
and feeding us at the Jewell-KSU swing and at UMKC. He opened up a large
empty house for us to create an evidence factory in during the swing, and
then allowed us to copy hundreds of pages of briefs we wrote. As a former
debate coach he knows what the struggle is like, and he helps us and
encourages us. He opens up his home to us and makes us feel part of his
family ... he definitely is part of ours. Now we are looking into using his
disad ideas.

The UMKC posse for welcoming us in KC, for sharing their cares and grief,
and for being so open with us. They also throw a very nice party.

Pam Stepp and everyone at Cornell, especially Sam Simpson, for providing us
with housing for 6 teams at the Cornell tournament. As usual the tournament
was a delight and we enjoyed it immensely. Special thanks go to the many
Cornell alums who come back to the tournament and give it one of the best
judging pools anywhere.

Pat Osowski of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for judging extra rounds at Cornell to
help us out. That was pure generousity!

Frank I. and Mike D. and everyone at Syracuse for housing us this coming
weekend at their tournament ... something we would never miss.

We are a SMALL program which thinks BIG. We are able to do this because we
are willing to work hard and sacrifice, but also because so many wonderful
people are willing to help us.

I have been a college debate coach since 1972, I have coached in HS, NDT,
and CEDA, and I have never seen a tighter, more supportive community than
the one which surrounds and nurtures us now.

Thanks.
