Supposed Earth Victory
The geocentered claim victory??? The battle fought and lost??? I dare say,
a deficient definition of the word 'OCEAN' can't do justice to this
semantic discussion. The capitalized 'earth'-ers collapse to the
definition of 'OCEAN' which doesn't get them very far. Please extend the
initial argumentation on why Mars has Oceans (which are referred to in many
cards) and please note - when Jason and Scott rely on a definition of
OCEAN which relies on the Earth to determine its meaning - they are
1. arguing circularly - to define a word in a phrase with another in the
phrase creates a lexiconic circle that yields little in terms of
establishing word by word meaning - thus sacrificing precision, grammar,
and language in one bold stroke, furthermore it
2. deligitimizes the resolution - if ocean is truly the spanse of water on
the Earth - what need of the word earth in the resolution?, furthermore
3. Turn - if ocean truly is the water on the 'Earth' then the resolution
MUST be talking about a different 'Earth' - because of #2,
4. Counter-Def - ocean - (i'll take pretty much any definition that doesn't
include 'Earth' in it or some traits of 'Earth' to establish meaning)
5. This definition would be superior because
1. it would avoid an artificial geocentric hierarchy
2. provide for the best grammar in the resolution (getting rid of
redundancies)
3. be the most precise - it clearly establishes the intent of the res
4. increases education - about other possible oceans
6. If in some worst case scenario they win the dictionary definition - i
would have to argue that the lexiconic structure is deficient. This
would be conditionally because
1. the stipulated meaning would be better because (cross-apply
resons to prefer)
2. the stipulated meaning is more real world, and more common
3. the stipulated meaning is aesthetically more pleasing because it
provides for nifty cases, cool interps, and rejects the elite
controlled lexicon.
