SPRING TOPICS, Berube, Larson, New Procedure
I urge the community to consider adopting a year-long topic next year. This
represents a change in position for me. I like two topics, but the
practical considerations have now turned the tide and caused me to opt for
a year long topic.
My previous arguments have been that I really ernjoy doing two separate
topics because of the great delight I take in issue discovery. It is a fun
time for me. However, now I believe that a year long topic procedure would
be better for CEDA because of the difficulties in coming up with two
excellent topic areas & choices each year. Not that we can't think of lots
of topics, but it means flying topic committee members to places to come up
with topics that then never get used, it means constantly having votes and
mailings, it means not having enough time to consider the framing for
second semester topics. And, I guess all of that outweighs my issue
discovery joy.
