okay, i would like to offer my two cents on this topic, although
i think pat was pretty darned thorough in his post (understatement).
I have cut a few cards from a worldgov listserv recently, and when
i cut the cards, i took the time to email the individuals whose words
i cut, to ask for 1) any qualifications they may have, and 2) any
additional sources they may direct me to. I received very nice posts
back from both individuals...one being a prof./researcher in inter-
national relations, and one being a published author and an activist
in world government. I do not thind that they are unqualified. I
also included in my cite the date, the cite on the web that holds the
archives for the listserv, and the persons credentials. I think that
this evidence includes all it needs to be "debate evidence". I think
that if i were to email these individuals and receive back a message
stating they were just students (like me), or some kind of layperson,
just interested in the topic, i would not use the evidence in a
round. But, we as a community should not decide this is bad evidence
simply because it comes from a listserv.

No, it is frightening that we feel we can't do a little extra work
to make sure some sources are quality and then use that evidence in
a round. This seems completely legitimate to me.
