Well, no. I don't think that the blanket statement applies. I find merit
in some justification of not flowing. Darren Hicks' justification makes
lotsa sense. If debate is truly an oral activity why do we rely so much
on a written record? When you make your decision are you deciding on what
the debaters argued or on what your flow says they argued. Admittedly,
all communication in a debate round has several levels of feedback by the
time it is used to formulate a decision BUT is the flow one additional
level of feedback?

NONE of this shoulld be taken as me sayong that nobody should flow. I am
simply arguing that there are valid justification for not doing so.

Well, if you mean tracking the full 10 2ac answers to the disad and then
the 40 2nc responses and then 20 1ar ...etc. you are correct. If you are
saying that one cannot make a rational decision in a fast round without a
flow you are dead wrong. For instance, if a disad is extended and the 2ar
"goes for" 6 arguments in response (or extension off of 6 2ac answers) I
think it is perfectly possible to do so. ANyone who's seen my flow knows
it is more of a guide than a transcription..:) I fill in the blanks - as
you do when you look at your flow. It's only there to jog the memory -
that means your memory is the KEY and the flow only a device to activate
and focus it.

Now, now. I;m not a paragon of virtue in these matters but your post was
a bit casutic, don;t you think. For the record, it's been 4 years since
Bear judged me and I'd like to think I;ve improved since then. Then
again...

Shit! I'm sorry :)
