--large numbers of students does not guarantee a good decision. Five
people shrugging their shoulders after a round instead of one hardly makes
things better. People need some sort of maturity to make difficult
decisions which I think the requirement to have a bachelors' degree
adequately ensures. Sure, they are a few debaters out there right now who
would be tons better judges than some of the people in the judging pools.
Unfortunately, those people will be debating while other people are
judging.
--students may learn from judging. There is a huge high school circuit
that would appreciate their expertise. Flowing elims and talking to other
people would come close to the act of judging while not permitting students
to actually DECIDE debates.
