everyone's got a different interpretation.
"parametrics" as SIU/K-State argued it during the heyday of whole rez vs.
affirmative plan focus debates (and we of course argued it both ways) meant
that:
the resolution was a "fence" which determined the set of topical advocacies
rather than a claim which was to be shown true.
both squads had read Hines' articles on topical competitive counterplans and
nontopical counterplans which competed with the resolution rather than with
the affirmative plan. these devices made clear that a "plan becomes the
resolution" argument was silly: there are 2 distinct concepts here. the
role of the resolution is a SEPARATE issue from the focus of debate.
