Hi All,
I hope things are going well with finals and other end of semester stuff
(such as researching the new topic area -- precisely Professor Church's
concern about this system). There are a couple of things that I would like
to suggest as well as a couple of questions I would like to answer.
First, I would like to remind people not to send personal messages to the
list. (This includes being careful about replying to messages from the
list -- take time to make sure that the message is only being sent to the
person you intend it, for example the resent post I sent to everyone by
mistake...)
Second, some of you still have completed my speed poll...
Now, to answer the questions that Jonathan Snyder raises:
>...but that our mailboxes get filled real quick by a relatively
>small number of us. I feel that this listserv has been a sort of private
>playground for a few of us...
I think that there are many reasons people have not/are not participating
(from not enough time and mild interest, to "fears of censorship...). But
I agree, and would like to see more people participate. (Although, about
half of the people on the list have participated in at least one
discussion.) If there are things that are keeping people from posting that
they would like to see adressed, please contact me personally.
>...it would be beneficial if you were to again publish a list
>of who are connected to this listserv...
Everyone can get updates of who is subscribed (whenever they wish) by
sending the following message to LISTSERV@cornell.edu (not to CEDA-L):
Review CEDA-L
To find out how active people have been you can send the message:
Statistics CEDA-L
You can send up to three "commands" in a message to the listserv as long as
they are on different lines and there are no errors before each command.
(I.E. text that the computer doesn't understand.)
>...Is it possible to access back files of ceda-l
Yes, I posted directions on this awhile ago. To get a specific description
of how to do this over the listserv, send a message to LISTSERV@cornell.edu
with
the text:
Help
You can get a list of the files now available (which are text files with
all of the messages up to that date from the previous file) you can send
the message
Index CEDA-L
(CEDA-L is also the name of our archive.) Then, to get the specific file
you want you send the message:
Get CEDA-L filename
Where filename might be something like: ceda-l.28nov93 (this is the first
file for the archive and is quite large as it contains all of the messages
from the beginning of the file until November 28, other files should be
smaller).
Good luck,
