----- ITEM 1 -----
In response to Alex (Rochester) and Max (Vermont). . .
I agree that judges need to be open minded in order for the
Northeast to progress as a region, but I'm still not sure how a
judge can "adapt" in making decisions. I'll listen and flow and
evaluate anything, but I think that good debate rounds center
upon substantive arguments where impacts can be weighed, not on
jurisdictionals that for some reason "dejustify" the resolution
or prove the affirmative case "wrong". I certainly share Alex's
concern about the NE in terms of national competition. I think
it is great that more NE schools are beginning to travel
nationally.
I admire teams that run unique or new substantive off case
positions (which is where the real debate should be) rather than all
of the silly positions (in my eyes only, I mean certainly someone
must think they are intelligent) that Marist has typically run
in the past. I think that these are an excuse for not doing
research, which ultimately brings the whole activity down, thus,
making the NE less competitive than the other regions.
I think that Alex, Max, and myself all feel very similar in what
a good debate round should look like, which kinda makes this
whole discussion obsolete.

P.S. While Adam (American) is also an avid 90210 watcher, it
was me (a graduate or Richmond) who is interested in this
"Emily" character that Brandon apparently had a past with.
