Re: Response to Barron

Does this mentality frighten anyone else?

I fail to see why CEDA has any need to mandate workshop or tournament
financial disclosure. If you want to know, ask! If enough people
ask, directors are likely to make disclosure a standard practice.

If someone refuses to open their books, you've got a decision to
make. You've got to weigh the benefit of attending that particular
tournament versus the possibility of your money going somewhere you
don't want it.

What if someone puts on a hell of a tournament, but makes a 15%
profit? That's in excess of the 10% "ethical guideline." Will CEDA
refuse to sanction such a tournament? In an organization so
concerned about personal empowerment, why not allow individual
programs to make their own decisions?

Requests for disclosure will occur. Most will be happy to show their
books, but some may not. Make decisions for your own programs. Base
those decisions on whatever criteria you like, but stop attempting to
force everyone to accept one set of guidelines as acceptable and
ethical.

Wallowing in my capitalist mindset,
Big Dave
