Ok...
I don't have the topic lists but what I have seen from all these posts(I have read most of them...god there are to many) we are looking at a civil rights topic, and I 've seen a lot on homosexuality. I will post my main thoughts on all the topics when I see them, but for now my main problem with these two ideas.
Judges can't leave out all biases. Now, correct me if I'm wrong. I've never done CEDA debate before. I am planning on debating for Gonzaga in the fall, but I've only done High School Debate(from SE. Idaho, which sucks for debate as is.) But from what I've seen, you stay away from topics which will pre-empt biases, OF ANY KIND, in the judges mind. Mayby it's better in colegic debate, but not that much better. If I tried to put out that Homosexuality or Racism was ok in any of my High School rounds, I would have been laughed at and not won a round. Plain and simple, you can't debate biased topics.
Just a thought.
