I agree, to some extent.  I chose NTSU as a freshman because it was close to my 
former hometown of Denison, Texas.  I chose ENMU because it was cheap and had a 
forensics program.  I went to Texas Tech Law School because, at the time I 
accepted, by girlfriend was an undergrad there (she dumped me before I 
matriculated).  If debate is that important to you, it's probably not a bad 
controlling factor.  I got more education out of debate than I ever did in the 
classroom and, by far, it was (and is) the best preparation for the practice of 
law.  A former UNLV basketball player picked that school because of the awesome 
fireworks display before each home game...
