Sure, this is an interesting concept.. Now where are you going with it?

 Some people at tournaments

I wonder, why do you refer to the monitor as brain washing? Is it in some
way more harmful for an individual to read information on a screen rather
than to read it in hardcopy? other than eat away at your eyes (which all
reading does, in time..) I see no difference between cutting cards and
binary codes...

What you're advocating is something that, as Bear (I think) put it.. it's
a matter of squad/personal choice. If you feel that cutting cards makes
you more prepared to debate, do so.. if socializing helps... to each his
own..Why only make half of the community happy? ( I use the term "happy"
to mean what makes the individual feel most prepared to debate.. I don't
know too many people that would prefer to go to the library on a Friday
night because they found it more interesting/exciting than a party!)

 What if we all

Count me in!
But, as I said before.. this is a personal decision, and it can never be
imposed on people

  Wouldn't the

Depends... if the person you're speaking to is all there upstairs,
maybe.. If you're trashed, the conversation may take quite a different spin..

Good for you! Use Netscape yet? I recommend it.. =)

Then you've been enlightened..
If your above statement is true, then the research question shouild be
irrelevant. If it is in the squad's best interest to use lexis, then I
say go for it. People don't always study for tests when finals are
coming up; they take breaks and (usually!) are able to balance the two
together... Debaters can do the sam
