Re: Kentucky tourney
Initial Preempt: I do respect Dr. Berube's opinions and
accomplishments, but I am somewhat taken back by the justifications
advanced for "cool(ing) your jets" on a CEDA division at Kentucky.

Actually, David, rumors have it that JW is looking at both CEDA and
parli as a means of possibly broadening the UK program. This might be
the way to get another large and very successful NDT program into
CEDA. The UK tournament is financially solvent now. The addition of
CEDA is not being considered by a "cash-strapped" NDT squad looking
for more cash flow. I just don't think its really being fair on your
part to make there groundless innuendoes.

Why? No reasons advanced. I think it would be a cool thing to be at a
quality tournament with both my NDT and CEDA friends there. JW's
famous party provides a great non-competitive atmosphere for the
building of NDT-CEDA social contacts, which seem to be healthy
regardless of your views on merger. You are right, David, that simply
holding two distantly-separated divisions is not a sufficient move.
That's probably why Tuna had to keep me from storming the tabroom at
the last Univ of South Carolina tournament to offer an NDT division.
Why not help us develop some suggestions for helping JW, instead of
being so negative? I bet JW won't change the number of rounds after
we get there, but past experience shows he might consider it.

Didn't seem to affect your decision to attend Utah's GSL tournament.
They haven't fielded CEDA teams in years. Are you saying that it's
OK, as long as its not in your district? If the South is so fragile
that giving up one weekend represents justification for inaction,
then it's in a lot worse shape than most of seem to know. If you
choose not to attend, that's your business, but why mount an effort
to discourage other folks from doing so? These are exactly the type
of attitudinal barriers that need to fall before these two
communities have any hope of moving back together.
David is very right that past efforts at dual divisions have been
less than satisfactory. Can we, in a constructive fashion, come up
with some suggestions that might help such tournaments? Doing both
NDT and CEDA has also shown me numerous tournaments where the NDT or
parli is treated like the evil stepchild, so the threat is not
unique to CEDA competitors. We need to give some serious thought to
how everyone is being treated.

Have you ever heard the term "flame-bait"?
