Re: Ethics - Coaches and card cutting
1) Most of the research we do is through groups of people assigned to
clusters of cases. Coaches are involved in that effort, but mostly to
COORDINATE student activities. We (Jamey, Mike and I) also have our
individual strengths (Korcok's is fashion) which obviously allow us to help
certain groups more than others.
2) Raj does not accurately describe the Savage case project. As many of
you know, that case required many different elements. Stanton cut the book
itself, Todd, Paul and Bill did the space work, Stanton did the OTEC work,
and I also read the book (as did Korcok) and coordintated all of these
sub-assignments (most of this was done on our "hell trip" which Raj did
not attend). I did in fact hold a 2 hr. session explaining the case to the
novices, but this is exactly the role of a coach. This example more than
any other probably emphasizes the "team" research concept we often employ
rather than the "coach-cut evidence" concept Raj presents.
Raj is awesome and brilliant, but perhaps not as informed as he should have
been before wading in on this issue. Mana anyone? Raj, you aren't allowed
to tap your OPPONENT'S creature without their permission!
