I suffer from the unique disadvantage of having not enough time to keep
up with the flood of messages on this thing. I just wanted to point out
that I never said rec was "play time" -- my position is the opposite. I
think the recreation topic is better than Latin America in the fall for
these reasons.
1) Recreation will affect every debater personally, making it important
to resolve certain societal questions about time allocation. There is a
massive debate running as undercurrent in America whether we spend too
much or too little time relaxing. There is no middle ground. Hence,
inherent clash.
2) Latin America sounds awesome. Let's debate it in the Spring. Spring
has more tournaments, more national circuit tournaments (at least that I
go to- but hey, I live under a rock), and the National tournament. Why
don't we debate recreation for a term, and then do another great one.
