Emporia partyRe: the "ethical discussion"

I really don't think the one round in question that has served
as a centerpiece for this discussion and the "rumor in the
hallway" is really at issue, anyway. I also don't think that a
discussion of how we, as a community, should resolve such
matters needs to revolve around the instance in question. From
what I understand (that's right, I heard all of the
whispers--both those malicious AND constructive) both involved
parties have reasonable rationales for their positions on the
subject...

If we wanna talk about criminal justice reform, we probably
aren't well-served by using the OJ Simpson case as our focus,
with all of its attached baggage. Likewise, I hope we can
tackle these tough issues in our little corner of the world
without making a year+ old debate round into our OJ trial.

I'm interested in discussing the ethics of evidence use. I'm
not interested in conjecture about the happenings in one past
round. Maybe this incident attracted our collective attention,
but I hope that hasn't happened b/c people want to see someone
else "go down." Let's use the gossip in the halls to our
advantage--it led us to discussing an important issue. Let's
not waste the opportunity by getting bogged down in the rumor
mill--or in one particular debate.
