Re: Tom Jewell's Claim of No Response From the Topic Commit
Let's de-escalate the tone of this discussion. I jumped the gun in my
original post. I should have waited to receive more information from
Russell Church and Pam Stepp. I thought I had made a request for
information about how the NDT topic could be included on the CEDA ballot.
I don't have a copy of my original post, but I can imagine that it was not
as specific as I remembered it. When I saw Russell's posting of the topic
areas I felt that my request had been ignored. I misread that message and
could have easily cleared it up by seeking more information. This is my
public apology to the topic committee members. It is also an apology to
those who have had to hit their delete button while this discussion goes
further off point (but fortunately for them they haven't read this far
anyway).
This is not a personal thing with me, except that I have not heard a
single argument that convinces me that there is any pedagogical rationale
for these two organizations to exist separetely. Many of the arguments
against bringing these debate organizations together have been
structural/workability type arguments. I know that organizational
structures do not give up easily, but I am impatient to see changes take
place none-the-less.
I wish there was another (more person-to-person and public) forum for
discussing these issues. I will not trust a poll on the issue of
merger. I know all too well how much influence a director can have on a
squad's attitudes and we have all seen how difficult it is to break down
barriers when communities do not interact directly with one another. We
need more discussion and debate. This electronic forum has probably already
spent its usefulness for this discussion.
Again, sorry for my lack of clarity and for sending this discussion in
the wrong direction.
Tom Jewell
