Re: The Judges Will Have a Lot of Explaining to Do! (fwd)



I was present for the quarters round in which Elizabeth told the judges 
on the pannel that "they would have a lot of explaining to do" if she 
lost this round.  While I view this as a tactic of a losing team in a 
critical round I do see it a lot.  I find it extremely insulting.  I have 
added to my judging philosophy for Phi Rho Pi nationals that I can not be 
scared into voting for any team.  The debater who says this is implying 
that the critic is making a hasty decision or a decision that he or she can
simply not explain.  I have never made a decision I can not explain.  If 
this tactic was ever used in front of me, I would probably be more inclined 
to find a way a way to vote the other way, although that would violate my own 
"least intervention" philosophy.
