Re: The Judges Will Have a Lot of Explaining to Do! (fwd)
I was present for the quarters round in which Elizabeth told the judges
on the pannel that "they would have a lot of explaining to do" if she
lost this round. While I view this as a tactic of a losing team in a
critical round I do see it a lot. I find it extremely insulting. I have
added to my judging philosophy for Phi Rho Pi nationals that I can not be
scared into voting for any team. The debater who says this is implying
that the critic is making a hasty decision or a decision that he or she can
simply not explain. I have never made a decision I can not explain. If
this tactic was ever used in front of me, I would probably be more inclined
to find a way a way to vote the other way, although that would violate my own
"least intervention" philosophy.
