Just a few thoughts on the NEDA/CEDA thing.
I hate to say it but I don't really care where I debate, or even what I debate,
be it policy or value. I like to debate, give me a topic, I'll do some research
on the subject, tell me the rules and the format of the debate, and I'll debate.
I am not in this activity for the big prize, no matter what league. I'll glady
admit that I am over-competitive and want to win, but that is just the way
things are. Personally, I would like to see CEDA stay as one unit with
possibly two divisions. Let's face it, no matter where you debate or how you
debate, be it a game or not, the end that you receive is education. In other
words, the higher the number of competitors, the higher the possible education
you could receive, even if someone is doing their best impression of the
micro-machine guy. Bill Sheffield is right, no matter where you go there will
be "abuses," just look at our own government.
Long Live CEDA,
Jonathan Honiball
ps. on a seperate note, why dosen't CEDA give out the topic some time in the
summer? This is probably my only complaint with CEDA is that topics come out
at the worst possible academic times.
