I am a professor in the Computer Science Department at The Johns Hopkins University. My principal areas of research are computer vision and robotics, and my application interests these days are in the area of medical devices and human-machine systems. I direct the Computational Interaction and Robotics Lab (CIRL). I am also the deputy directory of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Computer-Integrated Surgical Systems and Technology (CISST). I was recently elected a Fellow of the IEEE for my contributions to computer vision and robotics.
