Work and Research

IRE: The Integrated Robotic Environment
The IRE aims to provide compiled C++ robotics-related libraries with an interactive, high-level, real-time command interpreter. This Python and SWIG-based interpreter provides a multiplatform graphical workspace environment for easy, at-a-glance viewing of loaded modules, scope variables, and objects registered with the running C++ code laying beneath. An additional ambition of the IRE is to explore the possibility of providing a highly abstracted programming language for easy, modular, open-source integration of tracking systems, v ision systems, medical imaging systems, and mobile robots.

ONISS: The Opportunistic Network Information Sharing Service
The ONISS system provides a personalzied survival-of-the-fittest content sharing service over the Wave Relay Protocal, a novel ad-hoc 802.11 service. Users share data when they approach tranmission range of each other. Downloaded content is rated, accepted or deleted by the user. Ratings are submitted to a server for asynchronous value-added services, including behavior-based content suggestions.

Random Bits...

I'm a graduate of Boston College (go Eagles!), where I studied Biology and Computer Science, and worked on a Human-Computer Interface project called EagleEyes. My advisor was Dr. Jim Gips. You might enjoy reading his thoughts regarding algorithmic asthetics.

I also worked with some impressive kids and teachers at the Boston College Campus School.

I left that for a while and worked for a number of years in NYC and Boston. I worked for one or two companies, and had a terrific time building the first incarnations of neat little sites like this one.

Distractions!

The reasons the Internet is Good:
IMDB.com (first saw this via Lynx, in '93)
  Dictionary.com.

These help too:
  Ye Ole Calvin And Hobbes

Snowbird: Doug's thoughts on the 2002 trip.

These guys are gods.
And FINALLY, these guys are too. And they're also still great excuse for Sam Adams and hotdogs.

Tickle the noodle...

Elephant Artists (as in, elephants that paint).

Learn to program in just 10 years!!!

Hey programmer: How good are you, really?

Python: even better than donuts. Or sweeten your old objects with SWIG.

My family and a caravan of friends have been trekking to Harvard every winter solstice to see these wonderful people for 15 years. Corny? Oh, Big time. But great.

Office Hours:   I'm not a CA this year and am holding no formal hours, but I'll try to answer email questions.

I gave a lecture on Friday October 7th. Find the slides
here.

A few notes on setting up new Oracle accounts (from the lecture):
