
Services: Tera Term Pro for Windows
Tera Term Pro is a freeware telnet program for Windows. With the TTSSH Extension, Tera Term Pro become a great SSH program. You can use this program for your Telnet/SSH needs. Keep in mind you cannot Telnet/FTP to Sun hosts on the JHU Computer Science network.
Please note that the Johns Hopkins University Department of Computer Science does not support this program. These instructions are here for your convenience. The user assumes all liability.
Obtaining Tera Term Pro
- Download Tera Term Pro (Win 9x/NT) here. (Windows 3.1 and CE versions are also available from the Tera Term Homepage.)
- You will need WinZip or a similar program to decompress the ttermp23.zip file.
- Extract the files into a temporary directory and then run the setup.exe file.
- The default install path will be C:Program FilesTtermpro. Of course you can select your own.
- Follow any directions the setup program may ask of you.
- After this you should have Tera Term Pro properly installed. However, at this point it is only a telnet program.
Obtaining the TTSSH extension for Tera Term Pro
- To use Tera Term Pro as an SSH program, you will need to download the SSH extension here.
- You will need WinZip or a similar program to decompress the ttssh151.zip file.
- Extract the files into the directory that Tera Term Pro was installed into, e.g. C:Program FilesTtermpro.
- In order to use Tera Term Pro with SSH, you will need to run the ttssh.exe executable file found in the install directory (C:Program FilesTtermpro tssh.exe).
Using Tera Term Pro with SSH
- Run the ttssh.exe executable file from the install directory, e.g. C:Program FilesTtermpro tssh.exe.
- Enter the name or IP address of your host, e.g. yourhost.cs.jhu.edu.
- Select SSH from your "Services" options and click "Okay."
- You will be prompted for your username and password.
- Your terminal window should appear at your home directory prompt.
