The Eighth Annual ACM Symposium on Parallel Algorithms and Architectures (SPAA'96) is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Groups for Algorithms and Computation (SIGACT) and Computer Architecture (SIGARCH) and organized in cooperation with the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science.

CONTRIBUTED PAPERS: Contributed papers are sought in the areas of parallel algorithms and architectures. A major goal of SPAA is to foster communication and cooperation among the diverse communities involved in the theory and practice of parallel computing, including those involved in systems, algorithm analysis, languages, and applications. This year the symposium will have two tracks of papers.

Regular papers: Regular papers should present original, fundamental advances in the areas covered by the conference. The Symposium especially encourages papers that offer novel approaches to parallel computing, present new ideas in parallel algorithms or architecuters (including networks), present models for accounting for costs on parallel machines, or study the interaction of parallel algorithms, languages and architectures. These papers will be accompanied by a 25-minute presentation, and must not be submitted to any other conference with published proceedings.

Research summaries: These abstracts should summarize an ongoing research project. The purpose is to disseminate information on a project and update the community on recent results, some of which may have been reported in detail elsewhere. Among the topics suitable for this track are summaries of projects to build a parallel machine, to develop a library of parallel algorithms, or implement a parallel language. Summaries will be limited to 3 conference pages and will be accompanied by a short presentation. Because of the short format, these papers should be concise and rely heavily on references to other sources of information.

SUBMISSIONS: Authors are invited to send draft papers to:

FORMAT FOR SUBMISSIONS: Authors should submit 15 double-sided copies of a draft of their paper. The cover page should include (1) whether it is a regular or summary paper, (2) title, (3) authors and affiliation, (4) e-mail address of the contact author, (5) a brief abstract describing the work. A submission for a regular paper should then include an introduction understandable to a nonspecialist including motivation and previous work, followed by a technical exposition directed toward a specialist. The draft paper - excluding cover page, figures, and references - should not exceed 10 printed pages in 11-point type or larger. More details may be supplied in a clearly marked appendix which may be read at the discretion of the Program Committee. A submission for a research summary should be directed to a nonspecialist, and should not exceed 5 printed pages. Any paper deviating significantly from these guidelines - or which is not received by the January 16, 1996 deadline - risks rejection without consideration of its merits.

NOTIFICATION: Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by e-mail and a letter mailed on or before February 29, 1996. A final copy of each accepted paper, prepared according to ACM guidelines, must be received by the Program Chair by March 26, 1996.
