General Information
SPAA'97 will be held in Newport, Rhode Island, New England's international world-class resort. Newport was founded in 1639 and quickly became a fashionable summer resort, famous -- among other things -- for its amazing ``Gilded-Age'' mansions, Bellevue Avenue art galleries and scenic walking paths around Ocean Drive. In addition to the mansions and charming down-town location, in Newport one can visit the summer home of J.F. Kennedy (known as JFK's ``Summer White House''), the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and many of America's Cup yachts.
In late June, the beginning of Newport's peak season, typical temperatures are in the 70's F (around 20 C), cooling down in the evening. Because of its coastal location, Newport is often windy.
