Jan 1, 2007 - Tiffany Chen has joined the lab as a Biomedical Engineering Master's Student. Welcome!

Oct 1-6 - Sharmi, Maneesh and Dr. Hager went to the 2006 MICCAI in Copenhagen. Sharmi had a poster, "Real-Time Endoscopic Mosaicking". Maneesh had a CVII workshop presentation, "Robust Image-Based Motion Tracking for Coronary MR Angiography".

Oct 1 - Carol Reiley and Dan Abretske have joined the lab as first year PhD students. Welcome!

Sept 1 - Dan Mirota and Ioana have joined the lab as first year PhD students. Welcome!

Summer 2006 - There are two Research Experience for Undergraduates this summer in the CIRL Lab. David Mayhew will be mentored by Maneesh. Elia Junco will be mentore d by Henry. Welcome!

Summer 2006 - Sharmi spends her summer in Colorado as an intern for Medtronic.

April 7 - Sharmi has been selected as one of 19 winners in the 2006 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship.The scholarship is awarded to outstanding young women completing degrees in the field of computer science. Congratulations Sharmi!

March 15 - Henry has won the Link Foundation Advanced Simulation and Training Fellowship! Thank you to the Link Foundation and the Institute for Simulation & Training at the University of Central Florida. The fellowship is for the 2006-07 academic year. Henry will be continuing his research on surgical modeling. Congratulations to Henry!

February 28 - "Towards Optimal Kernel Tracking" paper authored by Maneesh Dewan and Gregory D. Hager accepted for poster presentation in IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2006 in New York City. The conference will take place in June.

February 1 -  The abstract "Compensating for Beat-to-Beat Variation in Coronary Motion Improves Image Quality in Coronary MR" authored by M. Dewan, GD Hager, SM Shea and CH Lorenz accepted for poster presentation at ISMRM 14th Scientific Meeting in Seattle, Washington, USA.

January 27 - Henry gives an invited talk at the medical informatics group at UCLA. His talk was titled Surgical Modeling as a Precursor to Skill Evaluation and Training.

January 24-27 - Henry and Dr. Hager attended the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality (MMVR) conference in Long Beach, CA. Henry presented the work on surgical modeling and Dr Hager presented the poster on HMCS.

January 20-22 - Maneesh attended the Society for Cardiovascular Resonance (SCMR) conference in Miami. His poster was on his work on Image-Based Tracking and Prediction of Coronary Motion for Coronary MR Angiography. This work was in collaboration with Siemens.

January 2006 - Maneesh and Henry teach the CS intersession course 600.161 Exploring Vision in the Real World. The class consisted of 22 students.

November 15 -Dr. Hager has been elected an IEEE Fellow, effective January 1, 2006! This highest level of membership is conferred only by invitation of the Board of Directors upon a person of outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in IEEE-designated fields, and who has made important individual contributions to one or more of these fields. Greg was cited by the committee for his contributions to vision-based robotics. an IEEE Fellow for his contributions in vision-based robotics. Congratulations!

October 28 - Grant Ye graduates with a PhD. Grant will be working at EBay. Congratulations!

October 28 - Our paper "Automatic Detection and Segmentation of Robot-Assisted Surgical Motions", presented and co-authored by Henry Lin, has won the Student Award in the Computer-Assisted Intervention and Robotics Category at MICCAI! Congratulations!

October 25-29 - Henry and Greg attended the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) conference in Palm Springs, CA.

August - Jason Corso and Donald (Xiangtian) Dai graduate with PhDs. Jason will be a post-doc at UCLA. Donald will be working at Google. Congratulations!

May-August - Clare Yang and Luz Molinelli will be working as interns for the CIRL Lab as part of the Research Experience for Undergraduates Program. Luz will be working under the guidance of Jason and Clare will be under the guidance of Henry. Welcome!

May, 2005 - Dr. Darius Burschka is leaving the CIRL Lab for the Lab for Robotics and Embedded Systems at Technische Universität München in Munchen Germany. We wish him the best of luck!
